The evolution of personality
This evening, I received a notification from classmates.com that someone had left her name on my profile there. This of course, led to my following the link provided to see who had done it. Her name was not one that I recognized, so I pulled out my Seniors Scrapbook (sadly, I have no yearbooks) to see if it held any clues to her identity. It didn’t, but it did bring about some embarrassment on my part on some of the things I had written so many years ago. Here, I shall share some of the tidbits.
The best thing about being a senior is…
the transition from school to an independent life beyond.
I can’t believe I actually wrote something that cheesy.
As a senior I feel:
that the most important thing in the world is the world itself. I hope this belief will not change.
See my comment above. While this belief hasn’t been abandoned, I have matured in my beliefs concerning environmentalism (I’m no longer a left-wing wingnut)
Personality Description:
Easy-going, fun-loving, open-minded, friendly, concerned about others, help friends emotionally, happy go-lucky.
I’d say this is still true. “Open-minded” was my way of accepting homosexuality without admitting to myself that I was gay.
I admire:
President Clinton for rising above the odds in ‘92.
*cough* I swear I wasn’t on drugs back then. Honest!
Five years after graduation, I predict I will be:
Living at home or independently? I’ll be living by myself.
Engaged, married, or attached? Attached.
To whom? Someone I like — don’t know.
The first one was true, the second, not so much.
In 10 years I can see myself
Employed: As a teacher
Marital status: Married.
Children? If so, how many: Not more than one.
Married? Yeah, I was deep in denial. I still would like to teach.
Teachers & Classes
Favorite classes: Swimming, Spanish
Best because: I love water!! It’s easy!
Favorite teacher(s): Mrs. Alma Adams
Best because: She encouraged me to write.
Actually, my love for the water was only part of the reason I enjoyed swim class. The other reason was the cute 16 year-old in my class who wore speedos but always changed under a towel. Talk about sexually frustrating a 17 year-old queer boy!
Can Do…
I’m really good at: writing stories, swimming, “absorbing Spanish”
I daydream about: being a successful author
My goal is to: eventually get a teacher’s certificate
I survived: High school
I still enjoy writing and swimming. My Spanish has gone rusty but I can get by. I’m actually working on a novel (for the past several years actually) off and on, and I still think about becoming a teacher.
Locker Inventory:
My locker usually contains: books & a jacket
And paper. Lots of it. All loose. And the occasional gym sock.
Favorites
Time waster: Homework!
Actually I meant that homework was a waste of time — not that I enjoyed doing it.
Sports: Swimming, racquetball
Swimming because I liked checking out the boys, and racquetball because it was fun. I’d have to say that these are both still my favorites.
Food: Enchiladas, tacos, burritos, tostones, coke
My father makes some killer enchiladas. Tostones are also highly addicting. Mmmmmm. I make sure that my fridge is always stocked with Coke (Classic — not any of the fake coke varieties).
Favorite burger: NONE — vegetarian
I actually maintained my vegetarianism until 2003. Began in 1991 when I considered going to Burger King, but then decided to become a vegetarian and changed my mind. I gave up poultry in 1994 after biting into a half-cooked chicken breast sandwich, and didn’t eat another animal until I was staying with a distant relative. Now I love me a good steak.
I like hanging onto old things because it’s interesting to see how I’ve changed over the years, and how I’ve stayed the same. Although, reading some of those things is somewhat embarrassing and makes me want to go back a few years and slap some sense into myself.

Hey, we can all be cheesy in High School. I’ll have to go back to mine and see what people wrote about me. Oh, I had so many crushes with the guys….

I think back on high school & wish I’d taken PE instead of Marching band. Oh well. ;^)
I’ve had some interesting “We were friends?” moments since high school. I guess everyone remembers things differently.
