Opposing the troops

This evening, I was doing some blogsurfing when I came across a website which raised my blood pressure considerably.

It’s called “Citizens Against the Troops“. It’s run by a spineless coward by the name of Michael Crook. I’ve actually run into his crap online before — he used to run a website called Forsake The Troops which now appears to be offline.

This person was once in the Army himself… he enlisted under fraudulent conditions. He apparently has a heart condition which would normally preclude enlistment, but due to a MEPS doctor’s lack of diligence, he was able to ship out to basic training.

Once in basic, he found that it wasn’t as much of a cakewalk as he thought it would be, and wound up being separated due to his medical condition. Since then, he’s been on an anti-military crusade. Sounds like a case of sour grapes to me.

Here’s some of the crap he’s trying to convince people of:

Perhaps the most outlandish and blatant examples of abuse of our tax dollars is the military pay and benefit structure. This year alone, a 3.5% raise was approved, which serves no purpose other than to deplete our nation’s cash reserves, and basically give soldiers money they haven’t earned.

These salary figures show a startling trend: the members of our military are leeching off of us, the American taxpayers. What are they doing to earn their money? Absolutely nothing!

If soldiers really love their country so much, then this change is proposed: eliminate pay altogether. Failing that, a more realistic solution would be to put into effect an across-the-board stipend. That is to say that soldiers should get, regardless of rank, a monthly stipend of perhaps $1,200. That would not change with time of service, or any other factor. Under this scenario, all allowances (i.e. “handouts”) would be eliminated. If the soldiers are going to leech off of we, the taxpayers, and if they truly love their country as they bleat that they do, then $1,200 is more then adequate.

The military does not protect our right to free speech, or any of our other freedoms. That is merely propoganda put out by the military.

Come to think of it, I wouldn’t be surprised if this coward is behind the mean-spirited card sent to PFC Sparling. After all, he must have the same level of maturity and intelligence as an elementary school-aged child.

[Update: 11 December 2005]
Hello there, Mr. Crook; welcome to A1in10… I know you were on the site today.

Why do you draw attention to the asshole? That’s exactly what people like him want.

The man’s already been on Fox News; I’m not drawing more attention to him than he’s already drawn himself.

The last time I’d tried to take a look at his Forsake the Troops website and it didn’t load, I figured he’d finally dropped his crusade and went back into the hole he slithered from. Coming across his new site yesterday hit a nerve and I needed to vent. My apologies for inflicting his crap upon you… I’ll try not to do it again.

i guess this knumbskull doesnt believe that soldiers a people too, who love, laugh, and live and therefore need money to support themselves and their families. Unless of course he wants the government to support a soldier and his/her family in all thier needs, such as cars, food, clothing for the soldier and every member of his familiy, etc. Yeah, the taxpayers would love that.
